A chance encounter with a hawk on Exmoor sends two children on an adventure across the threshold of time.
Caught up in the intrigue of desperate slaves, the children find themselves pitched in conflict against a pompously comical Roman official who, behind the mask, is both evil and deadly.
He discovers the
slaves’ secret and there is a thrilling battle, under the shadow of
the volcano, to escape not only from his clutches but also from one of the
most devastating natural disasters of the ancient world.
After a long journey in a magic yellow car Timmy finds himself alone in a strange valley. He is befriended by meerkats and a wagtail, who guide him through dangerous country to get him to a safe place.
There are many adventures along the way and, although Timmy is just a small
boy, he learns that he is very brave in defending his friends. Zebras help
them and Dassies cheer as they climb to safety with the San people.
Tsjenga, Soensi and all of the San take Timmy and his friends into their
small community. That night they call on the spirits in a trance dance to
help Timmy. The spirits answer and the magic of the San comes to Timmy’s
rescue.
